Permission to REstart

RE|.
“What?”
“Who?”
I can’t write the more colorful responses.

But all start a conversation that matters.

RE| isn’t my story. It’s everyone’s.
              Stops and starts.
              Wins and losses.
              Repentance and redemption.

And include everything in between.

RE| isn’t designed to “fix.” It’s not a band-aid or a “better way.” We are swamped with Top 10 lists, to-do’s, and “If you only do this one thing,”  posts every day.

I’m not a content creator.
RE| wasn’t born in a school.

It grew in boardrooms and Sunday school classrooms.

I spent over thirty years in corporate offices, leading teams across both operations and sales—and nearly as long teaching Scripture to youth and adults. Simply put, my life was boardrooms, conference calls, airports, church, and home. And in the midst of it, I learned the importance of words.

The Word matters.
Our words matter.
Language leads.

We were taught, “Actions speak louder than words.” RE| is going to…

Suggest?
Imply?
Prove?

That is simply not the case.

And I learned it one morning after stops at a MinuteClinic and an Urgent Care only to be told they couldn’t help. I had to go to an ER because it wasn’t physical

It was mental.

I was number one in the country in my role at a Fortune 100 company. My wife and I were leaving for Japan in 13 weeks. My first grandchild was due in 7 months. I had everything to live for.

Yet I didn’t want to anymore.

Twelve weeks later, I finished my partial hospitalization. The diagnosis isn’t what matters. The fact I am better does. And so does RE|.

RE| was born between the front door of the hospital and my truck. It combined a lifetime of faith, thousands of hours of leading meetings and watching language under pressure,  and twelve weeks learning:

People aren’t broken.
Their words and stories might be.

RE| lives where they intersect.

RE by itself?
It’s a simple prefix meaning “back” or “again.”
But it attaches only to verbs. Thousands of them.

And it’s our permission to pause before our next thought.
Before the next word we hear or say.
Before our next action.
It also goes an additional step…and allows us to repair if we made the wrong decision.

Permission. Space. Freedom.
And suddenly—potential.

RE| isn’t a fix. It’s faith.
Because in the Good News, the language of faith has always been RE|.
REpent.
REstore.
REconcile.
REsurrection.
REdemption.

Actions don’t speak louder than words.
They just reveal what the words had already decided.
As James said, actions expose belief.

RE| is permission.
Permission to pause.
Permission to Restart.

My name is G. Scott. I write and speak about words—the ones we reach for, fumble over, repeat, and sometimes regret. My work lives where language meets mental health, leadership , faith, and recovery—at home or in the office.

You choose where. RE will meet you.
